Howzit guys!
So…..I think Spring has arrived in the Cape. I don’t want to get too excited, but we did see the sun for a few days this past week…it was actually very hot!! 😊 We hit the beach like true ‘Vaalies’ and landed up at the Waffle House in the Strand! They also make pancakes! 😊 The kids thought the waffles were amazing, my son polished his off in no time and then proceeded to scoff down a croissant burger next door at Vida E!! Another growth spurt on the way!!
The kids are on school holiday this week, so I have been taking some time out to spend with them. We even got them into the gym! This made mom very happy! Thursday, we visited a place called Cool Runnings which is a downhill toboggan track and has an absolute blast! Next week they are back to school for their last term of 2023, can’t believe how fast this year has gone!!
This week I was thinking about our journey to the Cape and realised just how brave we were. Thinking back now I realise now that I wouldn’t have been able to make this huge change if it wasn’t for my experience. Now, I’m not referring to my work experience but the most important experience of all, life experience. Experience is an amazing thing – you can’t buy it or get more of it; you can only get it by living and learning every day. Your experience is what you make of it, you can’t get more of it without waiting for it. Obviously, the longer you have been on the planet, the more experience you have. But you never really know what you know until you need to rely on it. When I decided to change how I would work and make a living for my family I never doubted myself, or why I was doing it. It made sense to me, and I knew it was the best option for us as a family.
Now, nearly 10 months into our journey I realise that it was my experience that got me through it and allowed me to plan, focus and adjust to our journey. Without realising it, I was able to rely on my life experiences and plan how I wanted to create my new life. I had a plan, focussed on it and waited for it to happen. I now see it unfolding pretty much as I wanted it to, but it also taught me something, something that I will add to my ‘experience’ going forward and that’s the ‘patience’ to let things happen! We all want things to happen right now and get worried when it doesn’t. This happens to me a lot and I try to micromanage everything BUT since being here in the Cape I have learnt to chill out a bit more and go with the flow…and that’s the best thing about life experience, nothing is wasted. You are always learning, always growing.
What would your life CV look like? Have you thought about this? If you applied for a job and they asked to see your Life’s CV, what would you do? It’s not likely but maybe more companies should ask for this to give them a better understanding of the person – you can’t lie about your life’s experience now, can you? Imagine what this CV would look like?
For me, as a creative person I can visualise my life CV and think it would be an amazing opportunity to look back and reflect on my life and decide how to display my life experience for others to see. What would your CV look like? What would you want people to see? We must also remember that experience is good and bad – a bad experience will help us learn and grow and equally, good experiences are good to share. I like the idea that we are unable to determine our life experience, in that it is what is. Good, bad or ugly it’s still an experience.
So, my Cape journey has been tough, but the experience is added to my life CV as a learning curve but also an amazing experience that can be shared! I needed some sort of experience to know that we would be okay moving to the Cape and changing our lives completely. The nice thing about life experience is that it’s always there and, in my case, gave me the confidence to get out of my comfort zone, a comfort zone that was extremely negative for me. Hindsight is always an amazing thing, but today I look back at my journey and know it was the right one and that it was my life experience that got me here today! My CV is also better for it.
So, if we all had to apply for a position in Life itself, would we have the experience needed?
